The 2026 Kidz N Cameras Annual Photography Contest is a youth photography contest for students in 3rd through 12th grade across Northwest Arkansas. Young photographers are invited to capture the people, places, traditions, and everyday moments that make their communities special.
This year's theme, My Community, encourages students to explore Northwest Arkansas through their own eyes and use photography to tell a meaningful story. Your community might be your family, friends, school, neighborhood, local business, place of worship, favorite park, coach, mentor, or a tradition that brings people together.
At Kidz N Cameras, we believe photography gives young people a powerful way to express emotions, share experiences, preserve memories, and connect with others. This contest is about more than creating a great photograph. It gives young photographers an opportunity to share their perspective and tell the stories that matter to them.
No professional photography experience is required, and students do not need an expensive camera to participate. Photographs can be taken with a smartphone, point and shoot camera, DSLR, or mirrorless camera. What matters most is the story behind the photograph, the connection to the My Community theme, and the emotion it communicates.
Participants will have the opportunity to have their photography celebrated at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, during the 2026 Kidz N Cameras Annual Photography Contest Awards Ceremony.

Who Can Enter the 2026 Photography Contest?
The 2026 Kidz N Cameras Annual Photography Contest is open to students in 3rd through 12th grade who live or attend school in Northwest Arkansas.
Grade Divisions
3rd through 6th Grade
7th through 9th Grade
10th through 12th Grade
Students must either live in Northwest Arkansas or attend a public school, private school, charter school, or homeschool located in Northwest Arkansas.
For this contest, Northwest Arkansas includes:
Benton County
Washington County
Madison County
Carroll County
Any Camera. Any Experience.
No previous photography experience is required.
Whether you have been taking photographs for years or are picking up a camera for the first time, we encourage you to participate.
You do not need professional photography equipment. Students may create their photograph using a smartphone, point and shoot camera, DSLR camera, or mirrorless camera.
Entries are judged on storytelling, emotional expression, creativity, connection to the theme, and photographic quality. The camera you use does not determine how well your photograph can do in the contest.

What You Need to Submit
Entering the 2026 Kidz N Cameras Annual Photography Contest is simple. Each student will submit one original photograph and one Artist Statement sharing the story and emotion behind their image.
One Original Photograph
Your photograph must:
Be taken by you
Be your original work
Connect to the 2026 contest theme, My Community
Be photographed in Northwest Arkansas, including Benton, Washington, Madison, or Carroll County
Be submitted as a JPG or JPEG file
Follow the contest photography and editing guidelines
Your photograph can be taken with a smartphone, point and shoot camera, DSLR camera, or mirrorless camera. You do not need professional photography equipment to participate.
One Artist Statement
Every photograph has a story, and we want to hear yours.
Along with your photograph, you will submit a 25 to 150 word Artist Statement explaining how your image represents your community and the emotion or feeling you hoped to express.
Your Artist Statement is one of the most important parts of your submission. It helps the judges understand the meaning behind your photograph, your connection to your community, and what you want others to feel when they see your image.
When writing your Artist Statement, think about:
Why did you choose this person, place, or moment?
How does your photograph connect to your life and your community?
What emotion or feeling were you hoping to express?
What do you hope someone else feels when they see your photograph?
There are no perfect answers. We want to hear your story, your feelings, and your perspective.

The Story Behind Your Photograph Matters
A powerful photograph can make someone stop, think, remember, or feel something. Your Artist Statement gives you the opportunity to tell us the story behind your image and explain why the moment matters to you.
Every participant must submit an Artist Statement answering this question:
How does your photograph represent your community, and what emotion or feeling were you hoping to express?
Your Artist Statement should help us understand more than what we can see in the photograph. Tell us about the person, place, moment, or experience you chose to capture and why it is meaningful to you.
Think about these questions as you write:
Why did you choose this person, place, or moment?
How does your photograph connect to your life and your community?
What emotion or feeling were you hoping to express?
What were you feeling when you created the photograph?
What do you hope others feel when they see your photograph?
Artist Statement Length
Minimum: 25 words
Maximum: 150 words
Your Artist Statement is one of the most important parts of your submission. Judges want to understand your story, your emotions, and your perspective.
You do not need to use complicated words or try to sound like a professional writer. Be yourself. Tell us what the photograph means to you and how you want people to feel when they see it.
Your photograph shows us the moment. Your Artist Statement tells us why it matters.

We want to see your photography, your creativity, and your perspective. Every photograph submitted to the 2026 Kidz N Cameras Annual Photography Contest must be original and created by the student entering the contest.
Photograph Requirements
Each participant may submit one original photograph.
Your photograph must:
Be taken by you
Be your original work
Relate to the official contest theme, My Community
Be photographed within Northwest Arkansas, including Benton, Washington, Madison, or Carroll County
Be submitted in JPG or JPEG format
Be submitted before the contest deadline
Basic Photo Editing Is Allowed
You may make basic adjustments to improve your photograph while keeping the original scene authentic.
Permitted edits include:
Cropping
Exposure adjustments
Color correction
White balance adjustments
Contrast adjustments
Highlights and shadow adjustments
Black and white conversion
Noise reduction
Lens correction
Straightening
Minor sharpening
AI and Major Image Alterations Are Not Allowed
Your submission should represent the photograph you actually created and the moment you captured.
The following are not permitted:
AI generated images
AI assisted edits or enhancements
Generative Fill or similar AI tools
Layered images or composites
Sky replacement
Adding, removing, or replacing people, objects, or backgrounds
Filters or effects that substantially alter the original scene
Images created by another person
Copyright infringement
Keep Your Submission Appropriate
Photographs containing the following are not permitted:
Explicit content
Graphic violence
Hate speech
Harassment
Bullying
Photographing People
If a recognizable person appears in your photograph, you are responsible for obtaining their permission.
If the recognizable person is under 18 years old, permission must be obtained from their parent or legal guardian.
Original Image Verification
Kidz N Cameras may request the original image file, photo metadata, or additional information to verify that a photograph follows the contest requirements.
Photographs taken outside Northwest Arkansas are not eligible.
Keep It Authentic
Basic editing is okay. Changing the story or reality of the photograph is not.
We want to see the moment you captured, the story you discovered, and the emotion you experienced.

The Kidz N Cameras Annual Photography Contest celebrates more than technical photography skills. We are looking for photographs that tell a meaningful story, express genuine emotion, and show us what community means through your eyes.
You do not need a professional camera or years of photography experience to create a powerful entry. A photograph taken with a smartphone can be just as meaningful and competitive as one taken with a professional camera.
Each submission will be evaluated using a 100 point scoring system.
Artist Statement: Emotion and Storytelling
35 Points
This is the highest weighted category in the competition.
Judges will consider how clearly you communicate the story behind your photograph, the emotion or feeling you hoped to express, and the connection between your photograph and your written Artist Statement.
The strongest Artist Statements help judges understand why the photograph matters and what you want others to feel when they see it.
Connection to the Theme
25 Points
How well does your photograph and Artist Statement represent this year's theme, My Community?
Judges will consider how clearly your entry communicates what community means to you and why the subject you photographed is meaningful.
Emotional Impact of the Photograph
20 Points
Does your photograph make the viewer feel something?
Your image might communicate joy, hope, belonging, gratitude, resilience, love, pride, curiosity, peace, or another authentic emotion.
Judges will consider the emotional connection created by your photograph and how effectively the image communicates that feeling.
Creativity and Originality
10 Points
Judges will consider your creativity, originality, and unique perspective.
We want to see your way of looking at your community, not someone else's.
Composition and Technical Quality
10 Points
Judges will consider the overall presentation of your photograph, including:

Overall presentation
Technical perfection is not required.
A meaningful story, authentic emotion, and strong connection to the theme can be more powerful than having the most technically perfect photograph.

The 2026 Kidz N Cameras Annual Photography Contest will recognize young photographers across all three grade divisions for their creativity, storytelling, emotional expression, and artistic vision.
Awards will be presented in:

Each grade division will recognize First Place, Second Place, Third Place, and three Honorable Mentions.
One participant from all grade divisions will also receive the Kidz N Cameras Emerging Photographer Award.

One Overall Recipient
The Kidz N Cameras Emerging Photographer Award recognizes one young photographer across all grade divisions whose work demonstrates exceptional creativity, emotional expression, storytelling potential, and artistic growth.
This special award celebrates a young photographer whose vision and potential stand out, regardless of age, photography experience, or equipment used.

The 2026 Kidz N Cameras Annual Photography Contest Awards Ceremony will take place at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas.
This special evening will bring together young photographers, families, educators, community leaders, sponsors, and supporters to celebrate the creativity and stories of students from across Northwest Arkansas.
Every Photograph Will Be Displayed
Every eligible photograph submitted to the 2026 contest will be displayed digitally during the awards ceremony at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
You do not have to win an award to have your photography celebrated.
Every young photographer who participates will have the opportunity to see their work displayed and share their story with the community.

Yes. Basic photography adjustments such as cropping, exposure, color correction, white balance, contrast, highlights and shadows, straightening, noise reduction, and minor sharpening are permitted.
AI generated images, AI assisted editing, Generative Fill, composites, sky replacement, and adding or removing people or objects are not permitted.

You do not have to win an award to have your photography displayed during the event.

Yes. Previous Kidz N Cameras contest winners are welcome to participate again.
However, a previous First Place winner who received a camera as their First Place prize is not eligible to receive another First Place camera prize.
If a previous First Place winner earns the highest score in their grade division, they will still receive recognition for their achievement, and the First Place camera prize will be awarded to the next highest scoring eligible participant.

The 2026 Kidz N Cameras Annual Photography Contest Awards Ceremony will take place on November 13, 2026 at 6:00 PM at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Yes. Winners must attend the Awards Ceremony in person to receive their prize.
The Awards Ceremony is an important part of the Kidz N Cameras experience. It gives young photographers the opportunity to have their work celebrated, be recognized for their accomplishments, and share the moment with their families and community.
If a winner does not attend the Awards Ceremony, they will not be eligible to receive their prize.
